United Biscuits (UB) is saving £200,000 per year through web-based satellite vehicle tracking for its internal fleet of 200 trucks and 25 tractor units and third-party trailers.

The Masternaut Three X tool uses Microsoft Virtual Earth mapping technology to locate and manage vehicles in real time.

The system has cut UB's vehicles' fuel consumption by 7%, reduced trailer numbers through more efficient fleet management, enabled it to manage contractors better and improved real-time planning.

It has also helped the company slash journeys by three million road miles over four years and slice 20% off fleet emissions.

"With Virtual Earth we know exactly where our vehicles are - and where they should be," said Rob Wright, UB national logistics controller. "We have improved efficiency, decreased working capital and dramatically increased green benefits."
