An order for a new line of its Porky White brand of sausages from Tesco, has led London-based Graham White & Co to hire a semi-automatic tray sealer to keep up with the growth in sales.

The company has installed a PA182 tray sealer from Packaging Automation to meet its needs, which were for compact size, robust construction and ease of use.

The PA182 accommodates trays up to 120mm deep as standard and can seal and trim from a reel on to trays of crystalline polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, board and foil, for example.

Graham White's md Chris Price says: "Winning a national meat industry award last year has really driven demand from the major retailers including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury ... Initially we thought we might need an automatic line, but we're very impressed by the capacity and the speed of the PA182 which is more than adequate to cope with the quantities we are dealing with - currently around 20,000 packs per week."

Equipment hire is an attractive option for companies that have to quickly cope with increases in demand. It also offers a solution for seasonal products or where demand fluctuates throughout the year.
