Campbells Shortbread, the oldest bakery in Scotland, has a new state-of-the-art Hyster Fortens H1.6FT-A fork lift truck (FLT) supplied by Barloworld Handling.
The lift truck, powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), plays a vital part in the day-to-day operation of the bakery. It is used to unload raw materials for use in the bakery and to move finished product to a warehouse.
In the bakery, raw material is mixed and then processed through various lines, depending on the size and shape of shortbread being made. Finished product is packed in a variety of packaging, boxed and taken to a warehouse, which has capacity for 150 pallets, with up to 70 boxes per pallet.
In the warehouse pallets are stored in 6m-high racks. Pallets are then loaded on to lorries for despatch all over the country. A total of around 60 pallets are despatched each week.
