London based Bighams Global Gastronomy and Riverside Bakery have installed new equipment from Packaging Automation to meet their production needs.

Bighams has purchased a number of PA182 entry level rotary tray sealing machines since it began operations in 1996.

The semi-automatic, twin-station machines are designed to be flexible by allowing tray size changeovers in just two minutes.

They can seal and trim film from a reel on to trays of various materials including, but not limited to, crystalline polyethylene terephthalate (CPET), polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, board and foil. The machines' compact design minimises the space needed, allowing them to be easily moved from one production line to another as required.

At Riverside Bakery, it is a Vision 182 in-line tray sealer that has been chosen to increase automation and production to meet new business.

The machine is being used to seal film lids to CPET trays of stews and casserole ready meals for a major UK retailer. Automation of the line has already lead to cost savings, as Riverside has been able to take people off the production line.

Packaging Automation has also supplied several sets of heat sealing tools, one of which is specially designed for in-board trim for a circular pot with 'ears' or handles.
