Dairy Farmers plan for cheesy perfection
Dairy Farmers of Britain is installing new planning systems at its Llandyrnog cheese plant in North Wales in a bid to boost service levels, drive production efficiency and improve raw materials management.
The creamery, which processes 300m litres of milk a year, is installing the 800xA process control system from ABB and SSI's Tropos enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
The 800xA system will enable the creamery to monitor and control all aspects of milk processing, product routing and plant cleaning operations, while the advanced fault diagnostic capabilities should help reduce downtime should hardware faults arise.
The Tropos system provides an integrated view of stock control, purchasing, production, planning and scheduling, sales and delivery performance, helping reduce wastage and improve resource utilisation.
Formed in 2002 from the merger of Milk Group and Zenith Milk, Dairy Farmers of Britain is now the UK's third largest milk processor.
