Ambient grocery logistics consolidator Boughey Distribution has signed a 12 month contract with one-way trip pallet pool provider LPR following a three month trial into three retailer regional distribution centres (RDCs).
Boughey, part of NWF Group, carries in excess of 75,000 pallets of goods at its sites in Wardle, Winsford and Deeside and has over 150 customers which supply the major retailers. Under the service customers pay one price for delivery, collection and handling, with all repair, sorting and administration undertaken by LPR.
"As a number of retailers started moving towards the utilisation of automated deports - and the subsequent need for even higher quality pallets, we were starting to hit rejected pallet issues," says Boughey md Keith Foster. During trials rejection rates of 10% were reduced to zero.
Elsewhere, Sunjuice has appointed Innovate Logistics to handle chilled storage and picking of its fresh juices for Sainsbury. The 18-month contract involves the storage of carton fruit juices at Innovate's Junction 27 facility in Nottingham as well as picking for Sainsbury's RDCs.
