Duchy Originals has added a third beer to its line, but this latest one is bottle-conditioned -- the bottled equivalent of cask ale.

After seeing HRH The Prince of Wales supporting British cask ales at a Slow Food meeting in Turin back in 2004, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) challenged the Prince to brew a bottle-conditioned beer and Organic Summer Ale is the result.

The un-pasteurised beer is packaged with a small amount of live yeast left in the bottle. This continues to ferment, producing smoother flavours and a gentle carbonation that tingles on the tongue, says Wychwood Brewery, producer of the beer.

Head brewer, Jeremy Moss says: "It has been brewed with more than a nod to the hop, which has given it accentuated citrus aromas, followed by hints of dried fruit and marmalade."

The beer has 4.7% abv and the bottle carries the CAMRA real ale label. It is to be sold exclusively in Waitrose throughout the summer retailing at £1.69 per 500ml bottle.
