Fire safety panels are high on the coldstore agenda

Fire performance was crucial in the construction of food packing company Continental Fine Foods' (CFF's) new chilled store and dispatch area at its Manchester depot, which includes an area for charging fork-lift truck batteries overnight.

CFF chose Kingspan KS1100CS panels to insulate the walls and ceiling of the new building.

Darren Williams from Laurel Food Projects, which was responsible for panels' specification, says: "Selecting products which conform to the highest level of fire regulation is as important to our customers as the price."

Carter Coldstore Systems installed the panels, which are insurer approved and endorsed by the Loss Prevention Certification Board.

According to Williams, the new models are lighter and easier to erect than other building panels and have an impressive fire safety record. They do not contribute to the spread of fire, only emitting low levels of smoke, and present no additional risk to firefighters.

The panels are designed for warehouses with an internal temperature range of -40°C to 40°C.
