Food Manufacture has been recognised as the best monthly business and professional magazine in the business by the publishing industry’s main trade body.
On Wednesday May 4 Food Manufacture director Robert Marr received the Periodical Publishers' Association (PPA) award from celebrity Joanna Lumley at a packed gala celebration at London’s Grosvenor House.
Around 1400 people from across the publishing world had gathered to pay tribute to excellence across the whole range of magazine publishing. Award winners were selected from over 800 entrants.
Food Manufacture was selected from a shortlist that included titles: Accountancy, Airline Business, Chemistry World, Class - another William Reed publication for the bar trade, Insurance Age, Management Today, and Retail Jeweller.
The judges made the award for the substantial growth and readership support that Food Manufacture had achieved over the past year in a sector undergoing significant consolidation and under extreme margin pressure.
The judges recognised the advances the magazine had made “through a strategy of editorial excellence; teamwork across editorial, sales and marketing; innovation; market focus, and brand extension”
In responding to the changing needs of readers and customers, 2004 saw the launch of conferences, a dedicated web site, sections delivering insight into customers’ markets and people issues and an additional quarterly supplement.
The judges were “impressed by the increase in revenues brought about by these brand extensions, helping to the title to achieve a good year in a difficult market”
