Robert Wiseman Dairies has insisted that pollution from its Droitwich dairy, which killed a third of the wildlife in a local brook, was an isolated incident and did not reflect a more general failing of its environmental and safety procedures.

It was fined £7,000 with costs of £2,706 by Worcestershire magistrates for polluting Elmbridge Brook with trade effluent and contaminated rainwater.

Wiseman also pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching its Pollution Prevention and Control permit. The Environment Agency claimed that the milk tanker washdown area had been leaking for two and a half years.
