A £1.5m contract has been completed by York Refrigeration, which has installed a cooling, chilling, heating, and ventilation system at Welsh Country Foods in Winsford, Cheshire.
As part of an expansion programme WCF has upgraded its process cooling and air-conditioning systems. In addition, the company wished to relocate its existing system to its depot in Anglesey.
The refrigeration areas at Winsford included a 10,400m2factory floor area. York's design comprises a primary system using an ammonia refrigerant plant, and a monopolypylene glycol secondary installation providing the cooling medium to the chilled areas.
The lower volume of refrigerant in the system reduced the possibility of leaks to atmosphere. Maintenance has also been cut.
Three screw compressors, each capable of at least 50% of the calculated cooling requirement of 2,000kW, and incorporating an on-board computer control system were specified. Two evaporative condensers are used for system heat rejection, located by the cooling tower to meet the oil cooling requirement of the compressors. A total of 33 evaporators control different areas at a range of temperatures.
