German food company Schwartauer Werke has created what it claims to be the first fruit spreads to contain fructose and high levels of vitamin C and fibre.

According to the manufacturer, its new Wellness spreads have a high content of beneficial fruit but contain 30% fewer calories than regular products.

Varieties include Wellness Multivitamin, made with pineapple, apple, banana, pear, mango and peach; Wellness Rote Multifrucht, a mixture of strawberries, redcurrants and boysenberries; Wellness Kirsch Acerola, a combination of sour cherries and the vitamin-rich acerola cherry; and Wellness Aloe Vera that contains 10% aloe vera pulp, 6% wheat dextrin acerola cherry juice, and 5g of fibre per 100g of product.
