Italian olive oil company Carapelli Firenze has developed what it claims is the world's first oil made from cereal and fruit. Carapelli says the new product will offer a healthy alternative to other cooking oils.

Its Olys brand is an oil obtained from the cereals wheat germ, corn germ and rice combined with the beneficial properties of blackcurrant and walnut. According to Carapelli, the oil provides an ideal combination of substances that provide wellbeing for all active consumers.

The oil is said to be high in essential fatty acids and gamma-oryzanol, which Carapelli says helps protect cells from degeneration and can also help lower cholesterol levels. It is also high in vitamin E and in omega-3 oils.
