Meantime Brewing and Union Coffee Roasters, both of London, have launched what is claimed to be the first Fairtrade beer. The Meantime Coffee Beer is brewed with Fairtrade coffee from Rwanda and will be sold in Sainsbury in a 330ml Champagne bottle.

Meantime is breaking into the US with two new beers -- English IPA and London Porter -- under a distribution deal with the Flying Dog Brewery. It said that it could be undermined by the UK's progressive beer duty, which raises duty as output rises.
