Speed was of the essence when Carlisle Process Systems (CPS) was commissioned by Heinz Foodservice to provide new mixing vessels for sauces, together with a replacement and extension of the hot water system at its plant at Telford in Shropshire.
To keep downtime to a minimum Heinz wanted the whole job done over a weekend. Two 1,000 litre stainless steel vessels, complete with agitators, were built and tested before delivery to the plant on a Friday. By the following Monday they had been installed and were ready to process sauces, which form part of Heinz's single serve sachet condiment range.
The upgrade of the plant's water system was necessary because of difficulties encountered in getting enough water to feed the hosing and washing station.
The system was completely redesigned and instead of a traditional coil installation, CPS used plate heat exchangers for the hot water, which greatly improved the flow.
