The spoilt-for-choice consumer will soon be able to add Korean cuisine to their trollies following the first of what could be a wave of new products hailing from the country.
The product is a filled dumpling called Man-Du (Korean for dumpling), launched for the foodservice market by Oriental Harvest (OH), the UK agent for Man-Du. It is likely to be available for retail by the end of the year and OH is currently finalising packaging for the product.
The dumplings, which OH claims are the first authentic Korean products to be brought to the UK, are sold as frozen and are available in two varieties -- pork and vegetable, and chicken curry and vegetable. A prawn dumpling is due for launch later this month followed by a vegetarian option by Christmas.
The dumplings are the original product of CJ Korea, one of the largest food manufacturers in Asia, and are manufactured under license by CJ Europe in Belgium.
OH says some of CJ Korea's other products, such as ready-to-eat rice meals, instant noodle meals, and even desserts could be launched over here, with the possibility of some being manufactured in the UK.
