Bloomin' marvellous
No longer will low-carb dieters bemoan the shortage of lunchtime goods available to them, thanks to an innovative partnership between Hazlewood Sandwiches and manufacturer of low-carb products Carbolite Europe.
The two companies have teamed up to produce four low-carb bloomers after Carbolite marketing manager Mary Young was inspired by a strict low-carber struggling to peel a hard boiled egg on a busy train. "We are very much a sandwich nation and we wanted to create solutions for people to have low-carb options that fit in with their lifestyles," says Young.
The bloomers have been made with a multi-seed bread specially developed by Hazlewood which contain less than 10g of net effective carbohydrate (NEC). According to Carbolite, a standard shop-bought sandwich contains around 40g of NEC.
The sandwiches are being launched in Chicken & Herb Salad; Egg Mayonnaise & Rocket; Smoked Ham & Cheddar; and Prawn Mayonnaise variants and will be available from September, although Carbolite has not released details of any product listings yet.
Low-carbers will also get a lift from low-carb food company Carbophobia's new luxury cake mixes, which have been launched in dark chocolate, lemon, and coconut. The mixes are the first in a line of low-carb products and will be joined by an instant mashed potato and breakfast cereal in the autumn.
