Bank holiday blaze at 2 Sisters in Morecambe

 - Published:  26 May, 2009

Up to 80 firefighters were called to a 2 Sisters factory over the bank holiday weekend to tackle a blaze, which resulted in locals being evacuated from their homes.

Lancashire Fire Service said that fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning on the White Lund industrial estate in Morecambe, Lancashire.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire Service said that the police evacuated more than 100 people from nearby homes and that some of these were taken to a nearby sports centre.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and to assess the amount of damage to the factory. No one is thought to have been hurt.

A spokeswoman for 2 Sisters said that the site was temporarily closed and that the group was meeting to discuss the future of the factory.

2 Sisters’ head office is in West Bromwich, West Midlands. The group produces ready-meals and chicken-based products for major retail outlets.
