On-site effluent treatment reaps £50,000 reward
Somerset-based Grampian Country Pork is now able to process all of its effluent discharges on-site, including waste that was previously tankered off-site, following the installation of a new effluent treatment system from Micromac Filtration.
Growth at Grampian Country Pork had been hampered by restrictions imposed on its waste output by Wessex Water. After consultation with Micromac Filtration, Grampian redeveloped its effluent treatment system, allowing it to increase processing volumes and yet still remain under discharge consent limits.
The effluent treatment system installed by Micromac comprises a new 300m³ balance tank with a Helixor aeration and mixing system. New pump systems provide metered discharge.
Grampian used to send much of its meat processing waste for disposal off-site. In contrast, it now drains this waste to the effluent plant. This saves it £50,000 per year and keeps the plant well under its Wessex Water waste consent limits.
