Healthy muffins freeze out wastage
Rich Products aims to slash product wastage and cater for premium and healthy eating trends with the launch of clean label, 'freeze to thaw' muffins for small stores and catering outlets.
The 125g muffins are packed in cases of 24 for customers ranging from corner shops to small coffee shops. They come in nine varieties: reduced- and full-fat blueberry; Belgian chocolate; iced lemon; toffee caramel; raspberry & white Belgian chocolate; fruit, nut & seed; apple & cinnamon and mixed berry.
Made from free-range eggs and fresh fruit, each boasts freedom from artificial additives, preservatives and hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Gail Lindsay, marketing manager for Rich Products, said the collection was a revamped version of its ambient range, which had been reformulated using natural ingredients, creating a version that could be frozen. "The majority [of our customers] wanted to switch to frozen to save on wastage." The ambient range could lose two days' shelf-life between manufacture and merchandising, whereas the frozen versions could be thawed in store, giving them a full four days, she explained.
