Sweet deal for sucralose
The firm behind the first serious rival to Tate & Lyle in the sucralose market says it is close to a "major brand win".
Fusion Nutraceuticals recently struck a strategic partnership with Alkem, one of India's leading pharmaceutical companies, to launch sucralose, a high intensity sweetener 600 times sweeter than sugar, under the SucraPlus brand in the EU.
Fusion chief executive Shane Delaney said: "There is a considerable amount of innovation resource currently being committed by leading brands to reformulate in favour of SucraPlus."
Much of this was in beverages and confectionery, he said. "The most dynamic area of the market is high volume aspartame users switching to sucralose as a result of the decisions of leading UK mass market retailers to remove aspartame from their products."
Continental European retailers were also following suit, he claimed.
