Bristol schoolgirls design prize-winning muffins
A school in Bristol has won a regional competition to devise a new product for the food industry by creating four seasonal muffins.
Finalists competing in the South West Schools Challenge, which began early this year, were judged last month and St Mary Radcliffe & Temple School were the winners. A total of 24 secondary schools were in the contest, backed by regional food group South West Food and Drink Network.
A team of four girls from St Mary Radcliffe scooped the top prize, with Teign School, Kingsteignton, Devon coming second. Hobbs House Bakery acted as mentor to the victors.
"The girls have shown huge enthusiasm for the project and have been very creative," said Tom Herbert, boss of Hobbs House Bakery, based in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. "As a company we are so impressed that we are now planning to introduce these muffins to our range later this year."
