Scientists from the University of Southampton have teamed up with Vitacress Salads to explore the nutritional benefits of 'supermarket bagged' lettuce compared to 'fresh' lettuce.

Project leader professor Gail Taylor said: "Lettuce is often considered as a leaf of little nutritional value. This study will provide direct evidence of whether it does improve antioxidant status in a large group of volunteers. We really will know whether eating lettuce is good for us."
