Infused hard fats bring flavour to baked goods
Chilli-flavoured pastry and garlic pizza bases could soon be on the supermarket shelves thanks to new infused fat technology from Springthyme Oils. Springthyme currently produces intensely-flavoured infused oils.
Now Springthyme is investing in the production of infused hard fats to expand its applications into baked goods such as pizza bases, pastries, flans and pies.
Infused hard fats would enable manufacturers to develop more unusual products such as chilli-flavoured pastry in sausage rolls or garlic-flavoured pizza bases, for example. The infused hard fats could be suitable for a wide range of products from burgers and sausages to cake mixes, Christmas puddings and dumplings.
After successfully producing infused hard fats on a laboratory scale, Springthyme is now installing another production line at its Lancashire factory to produce fat-based infusions. Initial work will concentrate on the production of infused fats for pizzas, pastry products and speciality breads using palm oil and ghee.
