Yoghurt making plant comes to Telford
Clegg Food Projects has started work on a scheme to create a new yoghurt production facility in Shropshire. Austrian dairy firm, the NOM Group, is investing £40M in production facilities - its first in the UK - and the company turned to Clegg for its expertise in construction and engineering solutions for the food industry.
Due to be completed in January next year, the Telford plant will also provide accommodation for NOM's UK head office as well as producing yoghurt and yoghurt drinks.
The initial development is expected to create around 100 jobs while further expansion could see the creation of a further 400 positions.
The building of the new facility presents a number of challenges, not least some very exacting timescales. The internal finishes also need to be of the very highest level to ensure a safe, hygienic and efficient working environment while externally the new building will meet high aesthetic standards.
Sited on land acquired from English Partnerships, the new facility will enable NOM to produce its products closer to market in the UK, therefore reducing transport costs and the company's impact on the environment.
