Nestlé opens new £15M Aero plant
Nestlé Confectionery (UK) has opened a new £15M factory to manufacture its Aero chocolate brand. The factory, on which work began just over a year ago, will produce over 183M Aero bars a year when at full capacity this month.
Speaking at the opening of the new facility, Luis Cantarell, head of Nestlé's European business, said: "Nestlé Confectionery (UK) is a very important business for the Nestlé group and a major manufacturer and exporter within our European operations. This new £15M Aero factory demonstrates our commitment to building world-class facilities here in York to manufacture world-class products for the future."
Alastair Sykes, chairman and chief executive of Nestlé UK, said: "After a strong performance last year, Nestlé's businesses in the UK have made a good start to 2008. We are particularly pleased that the successful improvement of our UK confectionery business, which delivered double digit organic growth in the first quarter, continues. The opening of the new Aero manufacturing plant is a strong sign of the health of the business and Nestlé's investment for the future."
Nestlé's York operation, which also produces its leading Kit Kat brand, is one of the largest confectionery manufacturing sites in the world. Eighteen months ago the company announced a major investment and restructuring programme that would safeguard 1,800 jobs and ensure the York factory remained competitive for the future. In total, Nestlé has around 5,500 employees across 23 sites in the UK.
