Sustainable organic cod is still a good catch
Interest in sustainable organic cod remains high despite fish firm No Catch plunging into administration in February, with the sale of its brand expected within weeks.
"We've got some competition for the brand," said Daniel Smith, who is co-leading the administration at Grant Thornton. "We're exploring a handful of interested parties. Some already have well known brands on the marketplace."
The sale of Shetland-based No Catch's mussel business was also "imminent", he claimed, while the firm's salmon farming assets had already been sold to local salmon farming giants, Hjaltland Seafarms and Scottish Sea Farms and its trout farming business had been bought by Shetland-based QA Fish.
But administrator Grant Thornton was still trying to sell No Catch's live caged cod. "Until we find a solution for the cod, the firm is just trading as normal - harvesting cod and feeding it into market," said Smith.
