Build aims to boost Premier's production
Work has started on a £1.3M design and build project to increase food processing and warehouse capacity at Premier Foods' Bury St Edmunds production facility.
The contractor, ISG Jackson Special Projects, will build a dry goods warehouse on site and extend the existing food preparation building to increase production of brands such as Branston and Sharwoods.
The site is on a flood plain and, to protect the 861m2 new dry goods warehouse against flooding within, it has louvers around its perimeter measuring up to 0.5m in height. The firm said nothing would be stored below this level. Louvers enable water to access the building, but also to flow out once a flood recedes, helping to minimise disruption to operations.
The steel frame, metal clad warehouse and food production extension, will be built while the site operates. Work is scheduled to complete in September.
