Product recall prevention is key to FSA strategy
The prevention of product recalls by closer collaboration with the industry will be key to the Food Standard Agency's (FSA's) sustainable development (SD) strategy, said its head of strategic policy in Scotland, Bill Adamson.
Minimising waste caused by product recalls was obviously crucial to the FSA's sustainable development policy, which would focus on the environment, the economy and society, said Adamson.
The FSA's SD strategy needed to address several key questions, he said. They included: should it include food safety and nutrition as a priority; and should it moderate policy where it had negative impacts on trade? "Our primary emphasis will be food health," said Adamson.
The UK consultation closes on June 3 and the FSA plans to publish a summary of responses within three months of that date.
