Beauty fruity in a high-gloss pack
New product categories call for new pack structures, and when it comes to freeze-dried fruit pieces, one European converter has responded with a high-barrier, high-gloss flexible pack.
Positioned as a 'beauty snack' in the Austrian market, Magic Fruits required a transparent stand-up pouch with a shelf-life of one year. This has been provided by a structure incorporating an aluminium oxide coating on polyester, forming an effective moisture and gas barrier even as a clear film.
This layer is combined with oriented polyamide and polyethylene. Antistatic properties in the laminate combat the problem of 'fruit dust', which can compromise product appeal.
The challenge, says converter Mondi Packaging Consumer Flexibles, was to preserve antioxidants and vitamins in the product. The pouch is gas flushed, with a reclose feature.
