Dairy mixer gets sums right

The SmartMixer is an innovative mixing system for the accurate real-time mixing of a wide range of cultured dairy products such as yoghurt and soured cream. It produces the right amount of the correct specification end product using three ingredients streams, any of which can contain fat and solids.

The SmartMixer, developed by TCS Automation, uses the specification of the ingredients available on the day and then calculates the amounts needed of each ingredient for each batch just prior to manufacture.

Dairy products such as yoghurt can be defined by three parameters: percentage weight of fat, percentage weight of total solids and percentage weight of solids not fat (total solids minus fat). With SmartMixer, all calculations are done using density data obtained from liquid dairy products at a standard 20°C, having first been heated to 40°C and then cooled to 20°C to ensure everything is liquid.

According to TCS Automation, the new mixer dramatically improves control over the fat and total solids content of the final product. It reduces solids 'give away' and can double daily production capacity.
