Trading figures for Northern Foods' third quarter, which included the busy Christmas period but also saw the disposal of some major divisions, showed a 1.3% year-on-year decline.

The firm reported an overall improvement of 3.2% on the year among its retained businesses. Top performer was chilled where sales were up 5.6% on the quarter and 8% on the year.
