Premier Foods is likely to "aggressively pursue an exit" from its unprofitable fresh produce division and extend its Hovis brand into biscuits and breakfast cereals this year, according to analysts at Panmure Gordon.

The report assesses Premier's prospects after its acquisitions of Campbell Soup and RHM. It predicts moves into the chilled aisles for brands such as Ambrosia, Loyd Grossman and Bisto. If Premier, which has just added jam maker Chivers Ireland to its portfolio, is serious about generating three-quarters of its sales from brands, however, it may also consider selling its £200M predominantly own-label canning business, predicted Panmure Gordon.
