UV light cleans up food waste water
A new technology developed at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen removes 100% of contaminants from food processing waste water using an activated catalyst in the presence of ultraviolet light.
It destroys a wide range of dissolved chemicals, pesticides, micro-organisms and other toxins which have so far been difficult or prohibitively expensive to treat.
UVPS Environmental Solutions, a spin-out from university, has developed the new Sapphire range of water treatment systems.
They are the result of extensive research carried out by Professor Peter Robertson at the university's Centre for Research in Energy and the Environment.
The UVPS system has already been used on waste water from oil rigs and the company hopes it will become accepted best practice for contaminant removal in industrial waste waters.
