British nosh on the Costa
Food manufacturers are failing to capitalise on interest in traditional British grub from the growing expat market, according to a report from Food from Britain (FfB).
Almost 1M British people live in France, more than 800,000 in Spain, 180,000 in the Gulf States and 50,000 in south-east Asia, said FfB's head of research and consultancy Chris Brockman. The potential market was even larger once the number of British tourists was taken into account.
Sales opportunities were not restricted to well-known brands. "Own-label opportunities are increasingly evident in the majority of overseas markets as UK expertise is well recognised in this area," said Brockman.
Separately, FfB has struck a deal with UK Trade & Investment Yorkshire Forward to help firms in the region identify export opportunities.
