Remote monitoring and control of unmanned plant via the worldwide web is now possible following the launch of new systems which are claimed to offer sophisticated protection against hacking. The technology also lends itself to factory security systems, where sensors can detect intruders, activate cameras and inform designated staff.
Hitachi Drives and Automation subsidiary Silverteam, based in Great Yarmouth, has launched a distributed microcontroller priced at £550 with web, email and conventional industrial communications capabilities. The EH-WD10DR will "transform the face of manufacturing", claims the company.
It is said to be the first palm-sized controller with embedded server which enables automatic data read/write to be performed by a standard browser hosted by a networked PC. Up to 16 different email alerts can be automatically sent to eight different addresses.
Meanwhile, Aldershot-based Carlo Gavazzi has also introduced web-based data hosting to its Dupline range of field and installation-monitoring and control products which allows access to recorded data from any internet-connected PC.
