'Belt-and-braces' approach to cheap PET filling
French filling specialist Serac will be showing off its Canopy monobloc to an international audience at Interpack in April, with a focus on its compact design and hybrid filling technique.
Unlike other rotary fillers for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, the Canopy uses its patented Dynaflow system: a combination of weigh-filling and electronic flowmeter-filling. The compactness of this technology, as well as the neck-transfer system for bottles, means that the space between filling nozzles has been reduced. At 18,000 one-litre packs a minute, filling is also faster, says sales and marketing director at Serac UK Michel Titera. This means that the number of filling heads can be reduced by a third or more for the same output, he claims.
According to Titera, the monobloc was developed over three or four years, with prototypes working in the Far East for the past year. Filling so far has been with vegetable oil, where viscosity and density vary with temperature. But water, as well as other beverages, is another target market. The machine currently applies snap-on caps, but a screw cap model is in development.
The filler will be shown at Interpack, Dusseldorf, Germany, from April 21-27.
