Fresh approach to variability
North London-based fresh produce supplier Stubbins is now meeting demand for variable weight products following a factory extension involving the installation of new handling, packing and labelling machinery.
Stubbins installed eight Delford weigh price labelling systems for variable weight packaging of peppers and tomatoes.
The Delford 8100 machines specified typically operate at between 40 and 100 packs a minute. A full colour screen and keyboard display provides clear programming and running information, with high resolution 12dot/mm printing and the accommodation of a wide variety of label sizes.
Each unit -- which can operate on a minimum or average weight basis -- has been fitted with two labelling heads, allowing replacement or new reels to be set up in advance. Units can operate under automatic changeover mode to reduce line downtime, and offer the facility to apply promotional flash labels as part of the labelling application needs for the product.
The eight units are networked via the Delford Deltalink wireless Ethernet system that provides data for production control purposes to a remote PC. The machines can also be programmed from the PC for rapid changes in variable information.
