A spokesman for Kent Police told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “Kent Police was called at around midday yesterday to a report of a suspicious package at a supermarket on Sutton Road in Maidstone.
“The store was evacuated and the package was subject to a controlled detonation. The package was confirmed as not being an explosive device.”
‘Explosive device’
The police said enquiries into the incident are still in progress.
Meanwhile, last month Bakkavör’s revealed that police were investigating “a malicious act of contamination” at one of its sites, which had cost the chilled own-label food manufacturer £1M.
