Third-party logistics provider Gist last month opened a new primary consolidation hub in Hemel Hempstead, servicing food manufacturers in London and the south-east of England.

The regional distribution centre (RDC) will link into Gist’s European temperature-controlled network, providing a gateway into UK retailers for food producers in western Europe.

The RDC represents an expansion of Gist’s temperature-controlled primary network, which provides national coverage for chilled volume to the major retailers.

It offers transport, cross-docking and consolidation and a range of added-value warehouse services.

‘New regional distribution centre’

“Gist is delighted to announce the opening of our new regional distribution centre,” said chief executive Martin Gwynn. “Our network capability continues to grow as we support the success of our customers.

“Gist’s world-class supply chain operations make the best use of our national network to link temperature-controlled food suppliers and retailers across the UK and Europe, every day of the year.”

Gist is part of The Linde Group and has 4,000 employees, operating predominately from the UK and continental Europe.

Its customers included:2 Sisters Food Group, Tesco, Waitrose, Müller, Morrisons in Motion, Bakkavor, Kerry Foods, Starbucks, EAT, and Marks & Spencer.
