Theo Bergman, the chief operating officer for continental Europe for Hilton Food Group, has stepped down from the board with immediate effect.

The company said the move was due to “personal circumstances” but he will continue to work for Hilton on a number of projects.

Bergman’s operational responsibilities will be assumed by Philip Heffer who has been appointed chief operating officer for all Hiltons businesses.

‘Played a pivotal role’

Hilton Food Group chief executive Robert Watson said: “On behalf of the board I would like to thank Theo for his significant contribution to Hilton since 2000 having played a pivotal role in the successful growth of the group. I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Earlier this month Hilton Food Group revealed that two of its board members would retire in May: non-executive chairman Sir David Naish and non-executive director Chris Marsh.

Two new appointments were also made to the board, with Christine Cross, a trained food scientist and Jon Worby, who has previously worked at Genus and Cranswick.
