The firm installed an I-Cut 10, which is designed to cut fish, meat, veal or poultry to fixed weight and length at high speed.
"The cutting was previously done by hand," explains Tony Manners, great-grandson of the founder. "There were six people involved in cutting pork bellies, leaving us with a yield of 80%. Now we're using the I-Cut 10, our yield is up to 90% and we only need two people to handle the products and operate the portion cutter."
Yield increase is not the only benefit that R Manners has experienced. "We have also increased our throughput," says Manners. "What previously took a day to process can now be done in two hours." This enables the company to better deploy its manpower so that they can work on other orders, thus improving delivery times.
