2 Sisters’ St Merryn Foods has re-appointed Prys Morgan as head of livestock procurement in Wales.

The red meat processor at Methyr Tydfil appointed Morgan after a two-year break from 2 Sisters. Morgan’s knowledge and experience would benefit the business, and help to build collaborative relationships and buy livestock, 2 Sisters said.

2 Sisters red meat procurement director John Dracup said: “Prys understands the sector and brings a wealth of knowledge that will beef up our procurement and agricultural teams.

“We want to further strengthen our relationships with our valued producers and Prys has the skills and experience to drive this forward.”

‘Further strengthen our relationships’

Morgan will be responsible for beef and lamb procurement at the Methyr Tydfil site – 2 Sisters’ largest red meat plant. He will also further develop the new production system at the site and other supply chain initiatives.

The new head of livestock procurement had previously worked for 2 Sisters. In 2015, he moved to Welsh red meat promotional firm Hybu Cig Cymru as industry relations and knowledge exchange manager.

Morgan said: “I am really looking forward to being part of the 2 Sisters red meat team again.

“I see it as a challenging role, but one where I believe there is an opportunity to advance and develop relationships with both suppliers and customers.”

‘A challenging role’

The Methyr Tydfil site is part of the 2 Sisters-owned meat processing firm St Merryn Foods. St Merryn Foods was acquired by 2 Sisters in 2013, and has sister sites in Bodmin and Victoria, Cornwall.

Meanwhile, in February, 2 Sisters made two senior appointments to its UK poultry team. Peter Judge was appointed divisional operations director and Frank Robinson was appointed divisional commercial director.
