New system takes a trip across the Atlantic

01-Jan-2012

A time/temperature monitoring and management system for perishable foods launched originally in the US is now being made available in Europe.

Temptrip is a cold chain monitoring system designed to ensure food quality and safety is maintained, while food waste is minimised. It provides a complete cold chain record throughout the lifecycle of a pallet load, regardless of how many trucking firms, distributors, wholesalers or retailers have handled it.

In addition to recording time/temperature data points at desired intervals, the system also displays the food's journey online. Staff can look at a map and tell at a glance when and where food has been subjected to 'off-spec' temperatures. It can be linked to other data, such as pallet identity and shipping manifest number.

"Up until now, there wasn't a system that allowed data to be collected and easily correlated to other logistical data, throughout multiple chain segments even when there is a change in ownership," says Temptrip's chief operations officer Phaedra Culjak.
