Graham’s The Family Dairy is looking to drive its business outside the UK with the appointment of Joe Flynn as international business manager.

Export sales for the dairy are forecast to be about £2M this year, the Scottish dairy company said.

Flynn will be responsible for developing customer relationships as well increasing export revenues for the Scottish family business.

He joins from Baxter’s Food Group where he oversaw the international business and devised and implemented international strategy for the company’s operations in Europe, North America and Australia.

Leading consumer brands

He has more than 25 years in the sector leading consumer brands operating in over 20 countries worldwide.

Flynn has worked with Premier Foods, where he managed the company’s international business in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Previously he worked with soft drinks manufacturer AG Barr for 22 years, where he managed and developed distributor and franchise operations worldwide.

The dairy currently exports a range of products including: butters, cottage cheese, cream cheese and quark. Top export markets for the business include: the Republic of Ireland, Denmark, France, Spain, United Arab Emirates and Belgium.

The dairy business aimed to strengthen trade in these countries, while expanding into other key markets.

£20M investment in a new dairy

A key part of its overall growth plan, the company said,  was expansion in Scotland, with plans for a £20m plus investment in a new dairy and product development facility in Stirling.

Robert Graham, md at Graham’s The Family Dairy said: “We’ll always have a keen focus on our home market.

“But it’s also crucial that we make the most of opportunities abroad and I’m confident that Joe, with his impressive track record, will help ensure this happens.

“As ‘Scotland the brand’ gains increasing visibility worldwide, we plan to be a key part of that growth.”

Graham said the business was pleased to back the Scottish government’s economic strategy, which  supported companies in growing exports overseas.

“We’re ambitious, committed and see the huge potential of exploring overseas markets, which will benefit not only our business but Scotland’s Food and Drinks industry more generally,” said Graham. “It’s an exciting time for the business.”

Speaking about the new role Flynn said: “The global market for dairy products is significant and expanding.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues at Graham’s to explore international business opportunities – and feel confident that we are well placed to grow our business rapidly overseas.”
