Sieve sorts out contamination

31-Jul-2012

An American confectionery firm has installed a customised Blow Thru Sieve from Russell Finex to eliminate contamination from the sugar delivered to its site.

Fitted with the Easy-Clean Magnetic Separator, the sieve ensures no ferrous contamination passes through to the final product.

Ferrara Pan Candy produces approximately 341,000kg of confectionery per day. Over 450,000kg of sugar is delivered to the factory via rail each week. The sugar is then transferred from the rail car to a silo via a bucket conveyor.

The new screening system ensures there are no molasses or minerals in the sugar after it has passed through the silo. Other foreign objects can also enter it during the rail car transportation.

"We recognised the need for a fail-safe solution to maintain quality standards," says Alfonso Rubio, maintenance technician at Ferrara.

"We were very satisfied, especially as production is not slowed down because the sugar is screened while it is being blown to the next stage in the process."
