Sugar-free hard-boiled candies made with the sweetener isomalt were on display at this year’s ISM, the world’s largest trade fair for sweets and snacks.

Visitors to Beneo’s stand were able to taste samples from its Sweets Collection.

Included were the Fruit Veggie Twister, made with orange, carrot and ginger; the Hot-Cool-Booster, two opposite flavours with a thin chilli-fruit layer covering a lemon-menthol core; and Mango Sticky Rice Delight, a side-by-side candy concept based on a popular dessert in Asia.

Sugar-like sweet taste

Derived from beet sugar, isomalt has a mild, sugar-like sweet taste, which allows for other flavours, Beneo said.

The sweetener has received EU health claims for its low glycaemic attributes and for being friendly to teeth.

“With our new Sweets Collection, we want to stimulate the worldwide candy market with creative ideas that are in line with current consumer trends,” said Beneo marketing director Thomas Schmidt.

ISM was held in Cologne, Germany, earlier this year (January 29–February 1).
