Plastic in chocolate Santa sparks recall
Thorntons hollow milk chocolate jolly Santa was recalled because it might contain a small piece of plastic, which could present a safety risk.
The recall applied to Thorntons’ 200g chocolate Santas and included all date codes. The chocolates were sold in both Thorntons and franchise stores.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products were advised not to consume them, but instead to return them to a Thorntons store.
This was the second recall of chocolate Santas in the past month, after Coop recalled its hollow milk chocolate Santas because of two reports of alleged product tampering. The Santas were found to contain small batteries.
Last week also saw recalls of Clayton Park cream cakes for incorrect use-by dates and Tesco’s Butter Chicken.
Wrong best-before date
Clayton Park was forced to recall its twin-packed cream cakes, after they had been incorrectly labelled with a best-before date instead of a use-by date.
The cakes were labelled best-before February 18 2017, but the product should have been labelled with a use-by date of January 21 2017.
This made the products a health risk, as consuming past the use-by date could pose a risk of food poisoning, said the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
A statement on the FSA website advised consumers to return the products to a Clayton Park store for a full refund.
Undeclared nuts sparked a recall of Tesco’s Takeaway Butter Chicken. The sauce used in the product contained cashews, which were not mentioned on the label.
Possible health risk
This made the product a possible health risk to consumers with an allergy to cashew nuts.
The recall affected 385g packs of Takeaway butter chicken, with use-by dates of January 24 2017 and January 24 2017. Batch codes L014K and L015K were included in the recall.
The retailer advised consumers with an allergy to nuts not to eat the products and to return them to their nearest Tesco store for a full refund.
