Mondelēz International has discontinued its Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Gold Coins range to focus on “more popular” Christmas products.

The revelation received widespread attention on social media and in the press, with many exclaiming Christmas would be ruined without the popular stocking filler.

Heat Radio presenter Alex Duffy said: “Sorry to break it to you, but Christmas is cancelled: Cadbury has stopped making gold chocolate coins.”

‘Good commercial sense’

A spokesman for Mondelēz said: “Unfortunately, the coins were not as successful as other more popular Christmas lines from Cadbury and we believe it makes good commercial sense to leave this relatively small sector of the Christmas market to others.

“Cadbury remains the biggest chocolate manufacturer at Christmas and we are now focusing on our successful lines such as selection packs, advent calendars, tree decorations and all the other Cadbury favourites.”
