Pembrokeshire-based chocolate manufacturer Wickedly Welsh Chocolate welcomed more than 40,000 people into its factory over the summer holidays, the firm has revealed.

The founders of the business Mark and Karen Owen guided more than 1,000 customers a day around its site and it was recognised as a Visitor Attraction by Visit Wales Tourist Board.

The Visitor Attraction Status recognises quality attractions across Wales.

Guests to the factory can touch, taste and smell chocolate and even make their own chocolate pizzas and chocolate kebabs.

‘Unbelievable summer’

Chief taster and self-confessed chocoholic Mark Owen said it had been an unbelievable summer for the business.

“2014 was such a successful year for us and we really didn’t think anything could top it,” he said. “To welcome over 40,000 customers through the doors was the icing on the cake for us.”

Visitors on the factory tour also experienced live chocolate making demonstrations and see mass production equipment in action, the firm said.

It also launched a special Pembrokeshire Pass chocolate bar, offering buyers over £35 worth of discounts to the top tourist attractions in the area.

The Caramel Fudge Brownie bar costs £3.49 and provides free children’s entry a number of attractions.

Success for the local economy

Owen said: “We’ve seen an incredible reaction to our Pembrokeshire Pass bar, with the collaboration an undoubted success for the local economy.

“The feedback we received was that people in the local area want the pass bar again next year. I really want to thank everyone who has supported us over the summer and hope to see them all again soon!”

The chocolate manufacturer also launched a range of novel diabetic chocolate in the past year.

The factory is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30 to 16.30 with demonstrations at 12pm.
